The Höcker Album and the History Behind Here There Are Blueberries
Learn what the Höcker Album is, how it reached the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and what researchers found in its photographs.
A Pulitzer Prize finalist play follows a mysterious Nazi-era photo album and the questions it raises about history and human responsibility.

In 2007, a photo album arrives at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The images prompt a search into who made them, what they show, and what they reveal about the people who participated in the Holocaust. Written by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich and conceived and directed by Kaufman, the play uses the album and the investigation around it to examine the perpetrators’ humanity and our own. It is based on true events.

The story begins with a material object—a photo album—and follows the questions that emerge when it reaches a Holocaust museum. The play connects archival evidence, research, and theatrical storytelling. Its focus is not only on what the photographs depict, but on the people behind them and the moral distance between knowing about atrocity and confronting individual responsibility.
